Hurricane Irma
|
Why do tv reporters stand out in pouring rain to tell us that it is raining? Looks like a bit of a storm coming to Florida

They are but its a world wide thing.
Its a bit like the reporters on News at 10 talking about any big announcement by the Prime Minister which was at 11am who stand outside Downing St in the dark at 10.15pm. With no one around.

I'm flying out to Miami next Wednesday for 3 nights and then on a 7 night cruise. Hopefully it will be long gone but the itinerary will definitely change to go western Caribbean. Was looking forward to the planes in St maarten as well

Donald Trump thinks climate change doesn't exist, so he must be right.

Saw the reports of it brewing when we out in FLA last week... the thing is the same size as France....sounds as bad as they were predicting....
"Barbuda is literally rubble," Prime Minister Gaston Browne of Antigua and Barbuda told an interviewer with ABS TV/Radio Antigua.
"The entire housing stock was damaged," Browne said after visiting the island. "It is just a total devastation."
Charles Fernandez, minister of foreign affairs and international trade for Antigua and Barbuda, told ABS that destruction on Barbuda was "upwards of 90%."

Mate of mines daughter works on Necker Island for one of Branson's places and about 30 of them were sheltering in a steel bunker last I heard. Obviously hope she an others are all ok as it hit about 7 o clock our time earlier this evening.

Been in the US when a Hurricane got downgraded to a tropical storm that was bad enough.... and was in Miami 6 weeks after Andrew (last cat 5) hit in 92... lot of work been done since then with building regs etc but still would not want to be nowhere near this one...

What amazed me was when Katrina hit New Orleans I was in Florida and can honestly say when you watched TV there was a little bit here and there but not a lot. It was only when I returned to the UK I saw the devastation on the TV. I guess the Yanks learned a bit from that one!!

Watcha chaps - one up on Def as I am beneath the fucker, or at least about 100 miles from the eye in a a few hours, around half ten here now
We were on Cayo Laventado, a small island about half a mile long and 200 yards wide, 15 minutes by fast boat from Samana province in the northern Dom Rep - total paradise the gaffe and I have seen some beautiful places - anyway Irma is scheduled to go right over so they have shifted us 100 miles south and we are on hotel lock down in the room
Update that, just seen on CNN it is now running marginally north of that
Been absolutely calm all day but the rain has just started with occasional lightening, breeze getting up a little, might get lively here but we will be ok, the poor sods up north in absolute shacks are going to get wasted here, totally wasted, locals are genuinely top fellas too - Tin roofed wooden shacks cut out of steep hills without shuttering, wind, massive rains, landslides and sea swell
All very humbling and incredibly sad knowing the outcome

Just seeing pictures of Barbuda totally flattened. Seems Hurricane Jose is following on close behind Irma

Depends where it hits and where you are going... central florida is geared up and copes remarkably well... I can only remember 1 or 2 days that the attraction parks shut down otherwise it's business as usual... coastal not so much... however Floridians talk about Hurricanes on pre Andrew and Post Andrew levels... I don't think you can build a new house in the state without Hurricane regulations coming into effect... now what will happen if this beast hits a trailer park is anyone's guess...
